Award-winning journalist Yusuf Omar is one of the biggest names in mobile journalism (MOJO) at the moment.

In this session, Yusuf Omar will share his many examples of why the mobile phone is the best tool in a number of situations where a story may otherwise be impossible to get. You will get concrete and useful tips on how to get started with mobile journalism.

Yusuf Omar worked as a journalist for eNCA in South Africa, Hindustan Times in India and CNN. He was named the Mobile Journalist of the Year by the Thomson Foundation in 2016. In India, he helped transform the traditionel analogue news media The Hindustan Times, where he finished a mobile training program for over 750 journalists in an unusually short time.

Today, he represents one half of the Hashtag Our Stories organization, which trains communities around the globe in telling their stories using the mobile phone. Yusuf Omar has traveled all over the world and taught in more than 40 countries. He is back in South Africa today, where he has started the project Hashtag Our SA.
Beyond mobile, Yusuf will also be showing where the future of storytelling is going; social virtual reality.
