This Session is brought to you by ENTERTAINMENT MASTER CLASS
Charlie Hanson’s work as a producer and director spans over three decades of television drama and comedy and includes Ricky Gervais’ Life’s Too Short, Derek, Extras and Cemetery Junction.
In this session, Hanson will give insights on the evolving role of the „talent turned showrunner“ and new opportunities, especially for comedy talent, to find an audience across tv, online and vod platforms.
Gervais’ iconic character David Brent from cult tv show The Office returned after a 10 year hiatus as a one-off for the charity event Comic Relief. The online video and music performance with comedian and rapper Dom Johnson became an overwhelming success and led to the resurrection of the David Brent character on Gervais’s own YouTube channel which depicted David Brent’s new life as guitar teacher. After the huge success online, Ricky is now writing a new film which Charlie will produce, exploring life on the road with David Brent ten years later, as a salesman and with his band Foregone Conclusion. Hanson will also talk about Gervais show Derek that had its début to critical acclaim on Channel 4 in the UK and on Netflix in the US.
